Nvidia card for HD — Magic Bullet
Posted by Rick Wise on December 6, 2005 at 7:49 pmI shot a promotional HD video for Nvidia yesterday. Magic Bullet among other vendors came to endorse this graphics card as unique and revolutionary compared to anyone else’s. I wonder if any of you agree with that assessment.

December 6, 2005 at 7:53 pmSorry, whould have specified that this was a general view on all Nvidia cards. The cheapest one mentioned was $129, and supposedly made dramatic improvements in viewing video as well as rendering Magic Bullet.

December 6, 2005 at 8:11 pmi believe that the software you are using has to have “code” that will send the data to the graphic’s card
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO the question is does Vegas have that code to use graphiic’s card or is it magic bullet has the code ( indepentent of NLE) and takes care of sending it etc ????
i know over in combustion and other programs that do use the graphic cards CPU it really helps with previewing FX’s so you do not have to pre render …

December 6, 2005 at 8:40 pmAccording the to Magic Bullet guy, the program sends a signal to the card to get it working.
I gather that Vegas would NOT make use of this card.

December 7, 2005 at 12:23 amWhen I built my editing computer a couple of years ago I tried to get the best I could afford of everything. At the time that was a P4 2.8 HT with 1 gig ram (have since went to 2 gig). I also got an Abit Nvidia powered video card with 256 meg ram onboard. I later came to realize that this video card was way overkill for video editing with Vegas since none of the power of the card was used. But at least I do have the card if that option is available in the future.

December 8, 2005 at 1:44 amWe shot the piece on the Sony 900. I’m not involved with post, so I can’t answer your question about that aspect. I keyed (Rembrandt Patch) with a studio 10K through a 4×4 opal and then into a 12 x 12 1/2 grid. Fill was a mighty-mole into beadboard w/ 1/4 O. We scrimmed that way down to keep a lot of ratio. The giant soft key wrapped beautifully, just reaching into the on-camera eye but sweetly caressing the face. We added a highly diffused soft scratch from the shadow side and from time to time a shoulder light. A line of Kino Flos (4x4s) suspended from speed rail lit the 20×20 green screen. We dolleyed back and forth from just over the shoulder of the director/interviewer to almost profile. For talking heads, pretty tasty.
