  Faded PNGs on import

  I’ve been rendering dozens of PNG image sequences with alpha channels out of Softimage XSI with the hopes of editing everything together in Vegas. But when I import the sequences into Vegas, all the colours get faded, as seen here:

  Any ideas what the issue might be and if there’s any way to fix it in Vegas?

  I’ve tried all the transparency settings (premultiplied, dirty, and straight) to make sure it wasn’t an alpha channel issue. Also checked the same files in AE, particleIllusion, and a number of image viewers, and they look fine there.

  This is only a hint which may or may not work… but I had some png saturation issues once which turned out to be luminance/setup related.

  My graphics editing program turned out to have a gamma setting in its png export, when I set it to ??? (don’t remember… was it mid-scale, .5 or something?) everything was fixed. Apparently Vegas pays more attention than most programs to some gamma info in the file header or something? I don’t know.

  Thanks, I’ll have a look into that. I’ve noticed that if I resave the PNGs in XNView, they import into Vegas with the proper colours, so there must be something going on in the Softimage end of things.
