    Hi there

I am atempting to do a Live stream capture diectly from the Sony HVR-Z1U camcorder into Sony Vegas. (In other words no tape.)
I can capture the footage from tape no problem in HDV and DV, and I can also live stream (no tape) video via DV as well.
Does any one have a solution in Sony Vegas, or any other PC based system that can do this??
    Thanks for the help…
    Chris

I haven’t had the need on a job yet, but I did a trial a while back and was able to record from Z1 straight to external HD with my old laptop, no problems.

This was using the internal Vegas capture.

    Hi Peter Wright
Thanks for the repley to my issue.
I just wanted to clarify that you where capturing live from the camera and not capturing from a tape??
Was there any special settings that I have missed?
    Thanks again!

It should be pretty straight forward – just capture with the camcorder plugged into the firewire. However, you will NOT be able to do HDV, only standard def capture.

You can capture HDV directly to a hard drive without running the tape in HDV Rack. You can download a trial at Serious Magic.

Vegas 6 internal capture will capture HDV straight from the Lens. You won’t get any preview on computer screen, or changing time code numbers as evidence of capture, but it works.

    Try it.

Sorry…should have clarified…HDV is capturable (compressed MPEG2), but HD (uncompressed) is not capturable through the firewire.
