I have a 200GB Maxtor One Touvh Firewire Drive.

I was able to capture to it quite successfully w/no dropped frames etc, however now I seem to be having problems lately.

What happens is, after capturing some clips, the firewire drive will be dropped & can no longer capture clips without rebooting the drive and sometimes without rebooting the PC.

It is as if the firewire connection after capturing decided to no detect the drive anymore and won’t unless rebooted.

    Why is is?

And why all of a sudden now after no problems for several weeks?

    Any ideas? Clues?

a few times over past years i’ve had 1394 drives disconnect .. i thought rebooting help but in the end the cause was the 1394 cable .. … the old 1394 cables worked 80% of the time BUT the 20% will drive you up a wall ..

most times I don’t touch the cables . . . . powering down the 1394 drive and/or resetting the computer does the trick. It is JUST ANNOYING!

I used to have that issue before I got a real Texas Intruments chip 1394 card. Also there was an issue with older ADS/pyro external cases.
Good luck, it can be very frustrating.

    HA!
I also have 2 Maxtor One-Touch 200gb external drives and have had the same problems. At times, one or both don’t even show up in windows explorer. I think it is the cables. Usually I just pull the cables for a minute and plug them back in and no more problems for a while.

It hasn’t happened for some time now, but I don’t capture to those drives anymore. I just use them for storage and completed projects freeing up my internal drives. I have 3 SATA drives in my new editing computer. the original 250g that came with the machine and I bought 2 200gb drives for files and capture.
