  • horizontal lines & quivering stills very annoying

Posted by Joseph Dezordi on August 25, 2005 at 11:04 am

I have quality shots of a moving baby, with great skin tones, everything looks fine when I preview it in Vegas… there are some frames I have ‘snapshot’ from the video & bought them back as events as a jpg ….[ or as PSD after adding layers of effects ]

After I render this in PAL DV or MPG2, some sections have ugly horizontal lines especially where there is movement, this makes the video look really cheap ….

also some of the ‘ stills’ have this rapid quivering effect, despite being ‘ stills ‘.. yet, the adjacent event though it is also a frame fozen as a jpeg, looks perfect ,,,

is this some thing to do with bit rates or I, B, P frames ? [ none of which I understand…?]

I always render in Progressive scan at full quality

thanks for your help sorry if my query is muddled, but I am geeting epilepsy from this

After you take the snapshot, load it in Photoshop and deinterlace it. Does that make a difference?

I’ve found that even with a still, if the image contains fine lines I have to do all three of these to eliminate flickering:

    –force resampling (right-click, select “properties”)
    –reduce interlace flicker (same thing)
–insert a velocity envelope and set the speed to zero, forcing a still frame of a still frame.

Thanks, I did these things but the response is inconsistent, there are some images that still flicker like crazy

I noted that there is a function in Architect to reduce flicker, but that the DVD then takes much longer to encode, & the resulting MPGs or whatever they are are much larger,
