I’m going to add a picture compilation (slideshow) to a DVD I’m creating. What resolution should I create the images at? 640 X 480? 720 X 480 (.9 PAR?) Any help is appreciate. Thanks!

In scaling stills, Vegas likes 655 x 480 png. However if you plan to do a lot of pan/crop and track motion, higher res and larger photos are better.

For example I am completing a DVD that has video and still photos with pan/crop. I used the original camera photos of 1798 x 1199 @ 300dpi and checked the “reduce Interlace flicker” box on the timeline. This way I could zoom right in close.

It was probably overkill but it worked great for me. I use either PNG or photoshop PSD only on the timeline.

    Hi Marc,

I use 720 x 480 jpeg even though png is recommended. You shouldn’t go over 1440 x 1080. All my photo montages are in jpeg and they work find in Vegas. I’m going to use the higher resolu
tion next time to see if there’s a diiference. When I tried to change jpeg over to png, it takes to long for the computer to convert over to png, especially when your dealing with over 100 images.

    Good Luck!

    Thanks Ralph.

I think another responder thought I was talking about using still images as part of a video project — I was referring to picture compilations on a DVD. I would imagine that a resolution over 720 X 480 wouldn’t help you at all because that’s as high as the DVD would be able to display on a normal NTSC television. Do you use square pixels or .9?

    Thanks again!

    Hi Marc,

Try .9 and see what you get.
