    Hi Guys ~

Can’t quite work this one out, maybe finger problems or brain fade on my part. I have V5 and V6 installed. I import a nested V6 Veg file into V6 and place it on the timeline, so far so good. Problem is if I right click on it to open it up for some changes it defaults to open with V5, which of course causes an error as V5 won’t open V6 Veg’s. I have set the PC’s file associations for all Veg files to open with V6 but this is not the case when trying to open these nested Veg’s on the timeline. Am I missing some setting that will force these files to open with V6?

[Doug Graham] “Since when does Vegas do nesting?”

Since Vegas 6 was released in April. Nested VEG files is one of the new features. You can open VEG files the same as you can open any other media. You can also trim, fade, apply effects, etc… just like you would any other media.

Hi Doug…good to see another Fasternaut is still around! Versin 6 now allows nested projects. I think you will find some old (no pun intended) friends hanging out here. You’ll also find a quick answer to your problems from Ed and the others. Sounds like old times doesn’t it?
Cheers, Kevin McCarthy ps; I still have two Video Machines cranking out progams everyday, but Vegas ROCKS!

Sounds strange Chris, especially as you have checked the veg associations.

Maybe uninstalling and reinstalling V5 will help.

    Peter ~

Thanks for suggestion. Yes, had me confused. Not that it’s hard to do these days, confuse me that is! On the laptop, where I have both V5 and V6 the nested vegs open fine with V6. Going back to the Vegas workstation I had another look at the file associations and discovered that even though I had selected V6 and selected ‘always open with this program’ it kept using V5 to open the nests??

Upon further investigation I found that when I went through ‘Folder options’, ‘File type’, ‘Advanced’, ‘Edit file type’ and then the ‘Edit’ button it was pointing to V5.exe. Re-directed this to V6.exe and, what do you know, the nests now open correctly in V6. I guess it must be something to do with the fact that V5 was installed after V6 on the workstation as I had just rebuilt it and installed V6 first.

On the laptop V5 was already installed before V6 went on so it looks like whichever version goes on last grabs the file association by default. Can’t think of any other explanation. Had that not worked I was going to try your idea of uninstall/reinstall. Though going through what I just uncovered I think I would have still have had the problem… not 100% sure on that statement but what the heck, it’s working fine now.

Chris – from what you discovered, it sounds like my suggestion would have caused the problem if you didn’t already have it! Another item of info to file away somewhere in the grey matter!

Anyway, glad you got it sorted

I tried LE. In fact, I tried it twice, once when it was still Fast Studio, and again at LE 5. I even got one of Paul Mitton’s training tapes. Nothing was able to get my mind to work with the software.

Edition is, no doubt, a great program. Very powerful, tons of features, great quality. But it and my brain are on completely different frequencies. Vegas, on the other hand, I can “tune in” to.
