Following a Roadmap
Hi
Some time ago there was a tutorial somewhere but I’ve lost it.I have a map I want to keyframe to follow a winding road in Vegas 5. I tried using pan and crop and got something less than useable. Too fast and jerky. I tried slowing it down using velocity envelop but to no avail.
Can someone help me out please? Don’t think the brezier (sorry about spelling) would do it as I need to zoom in and follow the road. It’s not exactly a straight line either.

I was trying to do that a couple of days ago. I didn’t really get the hang of the Beier Mask to work so, what I did was to take a map of the U.S. off of the internet, save it, then took the same picture to PhotoShop and drew a line from point A to point B, and saved it under a different name. Put the map without a line on the track, then take the map with a line and place it on the same track next to the first one. Now, overlap the two pictures a little till you see the crossfade. Now select transitions, and select the Linear Wipe transition. Now depending which direction you are going, determines which linear wipe you select. ( traveling east to west, select the “right to left hard edge” wipe ect.) Drag the transition into the crossfade area, and you have it.

If you don’t mind spending a little bit of money, Heroglyph has this funtionality built-in.

Ed, I already have Heroglyph. I got it when they had that special deal a year of so ago. I’ll have to look.Steve, It’s not a line I need to animate. It’s a small area of a larger map I need to follow. Now like a small pan/crop box following a line on a map.

Definitely give it a check. It *may* be a new feature of version 2. I got to meet the creator of that program at NAB and it just took moments to create a path. He even added an airplane to the front of the line so the line appeared behind the airplane. Any shaped path could be created.

I think so Ed. I haven’t had Heroglyph installed in quite a while since I had hard drive and MoBo problems and finally bought 2 new computers. Now I’m getting everything installed again.
However I did what I wanted. took me about 2 hours but I did it using pan/crop keyframes.
You’ll see it as I’m sending you and Gary a DVD when it’s finished.

I looked at the VCD you sent. It was interesting. Saw what appeared to be one rough edit (around 1:05??? – going from memory)
