  • DVD Architect: Offline Media That Doesn’t Exist

When I was creating a menu-based DVD in DVD Architect 1.0 I encountered something strange. I had set the video in one section to be an avi file. Later on I replaced it with an MPEG. However, the issue was, when I re-opened the project, the media that I replaced (the avi file) was considered “offline” (because I deleted it off the computer). I ignored the offline media and tried to find it somewhere within the project, but I could not. I could only see the MPEG. The media that was offline didn’t exist, from what I could see, in the project. I ignored it for the time being, but when I upgraded to DVD Architect 3.0, the issue still existed. It became a problem becuase I realized I could not ignore it. I cannot create a DVD, becuase it sees the offline media as an error and all errors must be fixed before burning the DVD. So, now I am forced to face this problem.

My goal is to not have to re-create everything (everything that the problem affects) in another DVD Architect project (although I realize there is a great possibility that this is my only solution). I was wondering if anyone had experienced this problem before or if this is just a bug that DVD Architect 1 had.

If there is no way of deleting this “offline” media I was wondering if replacing it with online media would be an okay thing to do. I tested this theory and DVD Architect allows me to burn the DVD. Although the media is not listed anywhere in the “Optimize DVD” window, DVD Architect sees it and is upset if it doesn’t exist (is offline). Should I trust the Optimize DVD window and believe that the media, even though DVD Architect sees it, will not be put on the DVD, or should I believe that, even though the Optimize DVD window doesn’t show it, DVD Architect sees it and will put it on the DVD?

I would appreciate any suggestions. I am not expecting a solution, but, just to be sure, and to perhaps prevent myself from some tedious work, I am asking anyway.

    Thanks,

    Michael M.

Anything that it’s seeing as part of the project should show up in the Project Overview window. Just delete it from there.

That is good to know. Now I know that the media should (emphasizing should) not end up on the DVD for it is not there, and I have found a bug in the software (DVD Architect 1.0) and it just carried over to DVD Architect 3. However, it is a bug and I would expect anything. That is why I have two more questions.

I have found a way to, hopefully, completely solve this issue. What I have done is replaced the seemingly non-existent offline media with online media. (I did some tests, that I do not need to get into, that made me certain there is no way to get rid of this problem by deleting the media from the project.) Even though I replaced the offline media with online media, I still could not find the, now online, media. I made it online so that, I can make a DVD without any errors. I will prepare the DVD first. Immediatly after I prepare the DVD I will look in the folder it was prepared into.

Here is the question: If I find this media that should not exist in the project (but does because of a bug in the software) can I just delete the .VOB file from the folder? Would this affect the burning of the DVD if I deleted this media from the prepared folder? There is no link or connection to this particular media in the project and it doesn’t effect anything (It’s just there).

I know the situation is difficult to understand, becuase the problem I am having shouldn’t be occuring. However, the situation (I don’t believe) is important to answering and understanding the questions I asked.

    Thanks for the help,

    Michael M.

I can’t understand why you consider this to be a bug in the program.

[michaeljmpsu] “f I find this media that should not exist in the project (but does because of a bug in the software) can I just delete the .VOB file from the folder?”

Unlikely that it would be there, but AFAIK, the vob files are not segmented to correlate to the different bits of media on the disc.

I also very much doubt this is a bug. This is how DVDA (and Vegas) handles “missing media” that is contained in the project… but that it can no longer find in the location originally specified.

What you need to do (others have said this already) is to find the element within the DVDA project that makes a reference to this deleted AVI file. The fact that you cannot find this reference does not mean that it is not there.
