white balance
sorry if it’s already in the archives somewhere – am stuck working online away from home.
i remember reading somewhere that you could use colour corr. (or secondary), to pick the white level in a shot, and then transfer it to other clips?
the practical is there’s this bloke here who’s shot a wedding and interiors ok, but blue in shadow. i thought with the above he could do a quick colour correction?
any walk through, or other suggestion most welcome…

Unfortuneatly, Vegas has no such function. However, once you work out the right color correction on one event you can apply it to other events by copying and pasting event attributes. If the tape is consistant throughout, you can apply color correction to every instance of it by applying it in the Project Media (Media Pool) tab.

To the best of my knowledge there is no ‘auto color correction’ copy mode in Vegas like you have in some of the other NLE software. If there is a way to do it in Vegas please someone tell us. It would be a great bit of knowledge to have.
Two cents worth here.
Method 1. If the sections of video are different clips park the cursor over a clip where the color is ok then hit the ‘copy snapshot to clipboard’, second icon from right above the preview window. Next select the ‘split screen view’ icon, fourth icon from left above preview window. Next drag the cursor to the clip that needs color correction. If it’s part of the same clip from where the color was okay but now incorrect split the clip where needed add the ‘color corrector’ plugin to the new clip. Now make adjustments to say the ‘low’ color wheel and maybe clear the blue cast from the shadows to match the split screen view.
Method 2. Sometimes I find a more subtle way if it’s just a colorcast that needs removing is to use the ‘color curves’ plugin. If you want to minimise a blue shadow cast uncheck the ‘show all channels’ box and select ‘blue’ from the drop down in the ‘channels’ dialogue window and then just stretch, swing and move the nodes in the window until you get the correction you want.
All the time remembering that you can save any of these settings in their respective plugin windows as new ‘user presets’ for later recall. Good luck squire!

May I suggest a third party plugin which works pretty well for white balancing?
