I just downloaded QuickTime 7 for windows. Apple is calling it a preview copy, but they are selling a pro version. I downloaded the pro version ($29) so I could encode H264. The QuickTime H264 encoder works well on it’s own (from the Quicktime window) and I was able to encode 1080i and 720P. It looks pretty good and has very small file sizes.

Vegas 5 still indicates that I have Quicktime 6 loaded up, but it does see the H264 codec. It will not endcode H264 from the Timeline.

Has enybody tried this with Vegas 6?

If you want significantly better H.264 encoding, try Nero 6 Ultra Edition.

Just remember that older Macs and older PCs won’t be able to play back H.264, it takes CPU horsepower to decode. New graphics cards that can decode this onboard are on the way though.

Does Vegas See the Nero Encoder?

I just remembered that I have Nero 6 Ultra edition. I use it to burn DVD and CD’s from time to time. I was just looking at it and I can’t see where it renders H264 files.

How do I get to that menu?

It will see the Nero codec, but you can’t use AAC for the audio which is odd.

Recode 2 has H.264 right now, and the Nero Express is going to get it also.

Check the Nero website for updates. They recently added H264 and still call it Nero 6 Ultra.
