    Hello!

i’m using DVgate to capture minidv video on my Vaio.
and it splits the video into 2048mb size files. When i drag and drop them into
Vegas 5.0 … it creates this verrrry small overlap with a
crossfade between each video clip, therefore creating a
    split second of lost video.

When i play it back , it makes a quick clicking noise
when it passes through the small crossfade. AND it makes
it very hard to sync up the video and audio. (i’m syncing
    4 camera angles together)

In vegas 4.0, it did not do this.
In 4.0, when i dragged a clip…it had the full size upside down
triangle between the 2 clips. (right above the timeline)
BUT in 5.0, it’s got the half upside
down triangle – along with the crossfade.
i don’t know if i accidentally changed a setting somewhere in vegas 4.0 or 5.0

what can/should i do about this?
    thanks

Options – Preferences – Editing tab. Turn OFF “Automatically overlap multiple selected media when added”

    THanks for your response, BUT
when i went to do that…the
“Automatically overlap multiple selected media when added”
    box was already UNchecked.

doesn’t that mean it was already off?

i also changed the setting under that one
    from .250 to 0.00
that didn’t seem to do anything either.

Then I’m not sure what’s happening. What if you double-click each one of them? After it’s added to the timeline it should move the cursor to the end automatically. Then just double-click the next one.

thanks jedi…that worked (to an extent)
NOW, i have a different, yet related problem. 🙁

now i’m getting the full triangle right over the timeline.
(showing that the video files are NOT overlapping anymore! 🙂

However….now the audio part of each file…is a little shorter
than the video part of the file. what is up with that?

The audio being shorter is probably why you were getting the overlaps.

Thinking laterally – it sounds as if the drive you’re capturing to is formatted FAT32 which is causing the files to be split when it hits a max file size limit. Reformatting to NTFS will remove this restriction.

Also, I don’t know DV Gate, but is there a reason you’re using this rather than Vegas to capture?

    yeah…you’re right.
    but the funny thing is-
is that on one clip , the
video is a hair shorter than
    the audio. weird stuff.

i think i’m just gonna have to
    re-capture. i guess i’m gonna
    try the vegas capture program.
can it capture analog as well as dv?

Yes – to capture via a pass through device such as a DV cam or A-V converter, you need to turn Device Control off in Capture prefs, otherwise Vegas will be looking for a DV tape to control.

i just went and checked the hard drives-
they are both ntfs. looks like i’ll have to try vegas capture.

    one more question,
in vegas capture—does it capture dv as one long
    file?

    thanks

Yes, as long as you turn “Scene Detection” off in Capture prefs.

If this is ON, it will split capture into separate scenes each time the camera was stopped/started, assuming the camera clock had been set.
