Creating favorites library in MEL crashes PI 3.0.8.1
Posted by James Culbertson on May 31, 2011 at 4:34 amI’m trying to create a Favorites Library and PI 3.0.8.1 crashes constantly while working in the “Manage Emitter Libraries” dialog preventing me from doing anything there.
Any suggestions for how to stabilize this part of PI?
Thanks,
James

June 1, 2011 at 2:23 pmI need more info. Does it crash immediately? Is it after you do a specific action? Is it after using the manager for several minutes?
In the tutorial on creating a favorites library, I mention saving often (or I think I do — it’s been a while since I watched it) when using the manager. Are you doing this, or does it crash too quickly?
Details!

June 1, 2011 at 7:06 pmI am not able to ever close the MEL dialog without a crash if I have modified a library. But about half the time it will crash randomly while I am modifying a library.
No particular action triggers the action as far as I can tell. Working in the MEL dialog generally triggers the crash.
I would save if I could but I am not given a chance.
Thanks, James

June 1, 2011 at 7:41 pmThere’s a “Save” button — you don’t have to wait until the dialog is closing to save, and in fact, should not wait that long.
So what sorts of things are you doing? Moving emitters using the “add” button? Dragging emitters into different positions in the same library?
You should also email support at genarts dot com, and send your crash log — either make it crash again and copy the report information (don’t send the report to Apple), or look for the particleIllusion crash log which I can never seem to remember the location of… Library/logs/crashreporter or something like that I think.

June 2, 2011 at 5:46 amThat’s helpful. Saving does allow me to move past the issue.
I’m just moving emitters using the add button into a favorites library.
I’ll generate a crash log in the next couple of days when I have time.
Love having PI in AE.
Thanks, James
ps, there is some kind of conflict between PI and VideoCopilot Optical Flare. Optical Flare crashes AE when I add PI to a comp. Turning off Optical Flare’s use of the GPU seems to fix the issue.

June 2, 2011 at 11:31 amAre you using the latest (1.02) release of pIAE? If not, download the free update from the wondertouch website then let me know if the problem still exists.
