  • Export Error after PI update

Posted by Andreas Feix on January 3, 2009 at 8:59 pm

A few minutes ago I updated my particleIllusion version with an update that was avialable by checking.
After installing the update, however, I immediately experienced errors which causes particleIllusion to shut down whenever I try to export PI footage, in order to use it for compositing in AE.
At the moment this turns out to be quite a problem because I have to finish off a music video this weekend which requires some FX rendered in PI & comped in after effects – for now I can bypass this problem by saving the particle projects & rendering them out via ParticleIllusion Render, but it’s not as comfortable as usual…

(interestingly enough there’s no such error when I choose to export the PI renders via an *.avi file, however this doesn’t prove to be useful for me because I do the further compositing in after effects… )

If someone else experiences a similar problem, feel free to report here as well,
& when that’s possible – PI staff could you please check as well on this problem ? just in case so that I know if it’s just me or if that’s a generic problem from the update… 😉

    ADDITIONAL NOTE:

After further reviewing the renders by PI-Render, I noticed some weird render errors of the particles, affectiong especially the particle’s visibility & alpha channel settings. Apparantly the update for ParticleIllusion Renderhad some negative side effects as

I finally reverted the whole update process using the files from the previous one (kudos to that one; it was very helpful… ;)), & I was able to continue my work as usual… 🙂

Considering that we’ve had the 3.0.4 update ready for months, and have been using it almost daily, and none of the beta testers reported a problem with it, I’m guessing that it’s a problem with the update process and not the code itself. Plus, we didn’t change the rendering/output code at all, except for AVI output.

Is this on Vista? I need more details. Probably best to email support at wondertouch dot com and we’ll work it out that way.

    Hi,
I’m experiencing possibly a related issue? Just installed the 3.0.4 update on my vista 64bit machine.

My problem is this: When i hit the Save Output button i’m asked for a path and the type of file i wish to render. once I define those variables the program just sits there – it thinks it’s outputting the sequence but it never gives me options (like save alpha channel, etc.) I have to quit the program and then restart.

I can render using pIllusionRender, however.

I was wrong — it *is* a problem with the 3.0.4 code. A last-minute fix for the AVI audio support causes it to crash when you select non-movie output formats. We’ll be releasing a 3.0.4.1 update today for this.

On the “hang” issue — what output format are you choosing? A quick reply is appreciated as we need to get this fix released.

I think it’s the same issue, but please email me at support at wondertouch dot com and I’ll send you a fixed beta version to test.

Ok, we’ve fixed this error and uploaded 3.0.4.1 (which displays in the AutoUpdate dialog as 3.0.4a). Please install this update.
