Once you select AVI as your file type to render to, and hit Ok on the Output Options page, a pop-up should appear asking you to choose a Compressor codec. Do you ever get to the window, or does pI crash before that point?

Can you render to image sequences, or are those causing you problems too?

What stage size are you using? If it’s something weird, or if the stage window is not large enough to show the entire stage area at 100% zoom, then the render size being passed to the codecs may be causing one of them to have a problem. As a test, make the stage size 320×240 and then try it.

If it still crashes, then you might want to try this:

I haven’t used “Sherlock – The Codec Detective”, but it sounds useful.

Actually, I just tried Sherlock, and it lists all of my codecs, and showed me that one of them was broken (I think because it was a time-limited demo version that expired).

Why doesn’t Windows have something like this built-in?
