A tank Barrel firing, is this possible?
Can particle illusion do something like a barrel flash from a large tank?

Yes, there are a good number of emitters that can be used to do this sort of effect. One of the Super Burst emitters in the August 2003 library is probably a good start, since it has both a flash of light and a burst of smoke. The Smokey Sparkle Burst emitters in December 2003 would also be a good start if you lower the Emission Range to 0, which gives the effect of the projectile blasting out with flash and smoke, rather than just the flash.
