Particle Illusion 3 and Adobe After Effects Luminescent Premul?
Hi, this may be the wrong forum for this question, maybe I need a After Effects forum?
Anyways, Im having a problem with the multiple TIFF file series I render with an Aplha channel with PI3 and import to After Effects.
Then I put it as a new layer on the AE timeline and switch the blending mode to “Luminescent Premul” everything looks fine as long as I am running draft mode. But if I switch to Best quality… or render the entire sequence with Best quality settings, parts of the imported special effects disapear completely and it looks crap.
How can I adress this problem as I need to render my AE movies with best quality settings for production?

AAAAhhhhh… I found the solution for my prblem … I have been making a Non-Intense Alpha Channel for particle effects that do not need a Non-Intense Alpha Channel…

It’s a bit confusing when to use Non-Intense Alpha Channel and when not to use… is the thumb rule like to use Non-Intense Alpha Channel when smoke is invloved?

I would say use it whenever you have “Soft” edges on particles.

Luminescent premultiply should only be used when you are using a mix of both intense and non-intense particles, or if you are using particles with a soft edge that is picking up color fringing. You would only use Luminscent premultiply when dealing with both intense and non intense particles – not for non-intense soft edged particles. Take a look at this tutorial:

Make sure to use both the proper export settings (From PI) and import settings (Into AE) for your situation. If you do either wrong, or mismatch them, you get nothing usable.
Also VERY important – For Luminescent premultiply to work, There must be a layer behind your particles that fills up the entire alpha channel (LIke a solid or a picture). If there is nothing behind the particles, you will not see any of your intense particles outside the area occupied by your non-intense particles.

Non-intense alphas and Luminescent Premul doesnt seem to work that well on an all white background? Like smoke on white snow…

remember, you have to have an actual BG layer for this to work, not just a blank white BG color.
That said, Luminecent premultiply is an additive effect (like screen or add), it will only serve to make it brighter.
Try it this way- do the effect in pIllusion over a white BG – whatever it looks like there, that’s what it will look like in AE using a white BG layer and Luminescent premultiply.
You might want to try turning on the emitter property called preserve color, which may keep the smoke from being additive. It would really help if you gave a full description of what you were tring to achieve – please explain what you are compositing together, and what effect you are using in pIllusion.
