  Need advice with 3/4 inch transfer to computer keeping quality up

  I have a women who has a bunch of 3/4 in broadcast tapes. She want to transfer those to her computer. She actually has some kind of high end converter with YGB but it uses firewire. Is there a firewire convertible to HDMI out there …. She want to hold up the quality in the transfer. She has a sony deck … Any ideas.

  Dump the fire wire solution. You are limiting the data rate at best at at worst are ending up with DV compression.
  Use a facility that can capture uncompressed ideally. Having a deck isn’t the same as using deck that’s mechanically sound and adjusted and electronically aligned.

  The deck needs to be working good. Make sure the tape path and pinch rollers are clean. Clean the heads (but don’t break them off). And be sure to use a Time Base Corrector and input that into a capture card for your computer.

  It’s difficult to capture analog tape formats without a TBC.
