  • Sony monitor acting weird – PVM-1954Q

    Hi

My edit suite monitor is suddenly acting strange. The monitor is a Sony PVM-1954Q broadcast monitor.

Yesterday I attempted to switch on underscan. But from that point forward, the monitor buttons on the front are acting like they cannot be used. (like they are locked or inhibited), and I can no longer get my signal to be seen.

I confirmed black in, and it is fine.

    Any thoughts?
    Thank you

Sounds like it might have been a “static electricity” issue.
( A jolt can sometimes “lock” the logic.)

If it happens again, try pulling out the AC plug for 60 seconds, plug back in, and see if all is well.

    Hi Matt,

I tried what you suggested but it did not appear to change things.

The buttons are changing on their own and not responding at all to my attempts.

[richard_victoria_bc_canada] “The buttons are changing on their own and not responding at all to my attempts.”

Doesn’t sound good. If the logic board got a real ZAP of static (or any other kind of jolt) it MIGHT be “toasted”.

To make sure its not any kind of incoming “wild” voltage or surges,
try connecting ONLY a stand-alone camcorder, (running on its own battery) playing a tape, directly to the monitor (disconnect any other gear and/or sync cables) and see if the monitor buttons still act oddly.
