  • Cropping pillar box 16:9 video to become 4:3

Hi. I have a number of videos which are actually 640×480 but displayed as 1920×1080 with black pillars. I have no idea why the videos were created this way (they’re inherited from an outside source) but I need to removed the black bars and resize the video to its correct aspect. Is anyone able to point me to a command line that would do this? I’m not completely new to ffmpeg, but previous attempts have cropped the bars but then distorted the video, so clearly I’m not following something correctly. Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Please include the complete console output of:
    ffmpeg -i input
Don’t forget to format it with the CODE button.
