The current state of the XDCAM codecs on Mac & PC
I have received conflicting information in the past and am curious if anyone can clarify what the current state of the XDCAM codecs are on Mac and PC.
I know on the Mac I used to need to download the Pro Apps Quicktime Codecs package and install it in order to get the XDCAM selections to show up. Is this still the case with the latest Yosemite and Mavericks operating systems and versions of Premiere, Avid, and FCPX? Or is it now built into the OS, or installed by Premiere/AME, Avid, or FCPX? I was told at one point it is now built into the Mac OS – but I’m not sure that was accurate information.
Similar question on the PC side – is it part of the OS, installed as part of your editing application of choice (Avid, Premiere, Vegas) or purchased and installed separately through Sony?
Thank you.
