After Effects and Cinema 4D: greenscreen footage and background
Hi there,
I am working with AE for several years now, but I am a Cinema 4D newbie..
For my next project, I need to combine these two…I have got some greenscreen footage and some Cinema 4D backgrounds/elements. I need to match this (composite) in After Effects. So, what’s the best way to do this? There aren’t any cameramoves in the greenscreen footage: just a locked cameraposition, so that should make things easier…I hope. The final shot doesn’t require a cameramove.
– Greenscreen footage (let’s say an elephant…), shot with a locked cameraposition
– Cinema 4D scene (let’s say a circus..)
– Cinema 4D object (let’s say a small car)Final shot: elephant in the circus, and the small car drives behind (or in front of) the elephant…
What’s the best way to do this?

I would export a still image of the elephant from AE and apply it to a plain in C4D.
Then setup a camera in C4D and frame your elephant.
Next create your scene and your car to the way you would like them to interact with the elephant
If your background scene doesn’t have any movement at all you can render it out as a still image
Animate your car and render that out with alpha by itself.
In After effects place your BG images from C4D, then your keyed elephant footage on the layer above that and last the animated car scene from C4D to be but on the top layer (If you want the car to go in front of the elephant)

Bring the cinema4D scene and its camera into AE. Turn the chorma footage into a 3D layer so that it will be affected by the camera. Make adjustments as required.
