Just reloaded my FCS2 – 6.0.5 into my new 12core Mac-
Compressor menu BAR opens up when I open the App but NO layout. I can manually open each window, but can’t seem to get it to load a video clip. Before, I could just drag a clip onto the icon and it would open Compressor, all ready to go.

Layouts menu offers nothing that sets up all the windows.

ran a repair program “Compressor Repair” – no joy.

    Compressor 3.0.1
    FCS2
    Snow leopard 10.6.4
    14GB ram

apologies if this is incorrect forum! Did not see one for this App.

    Yeah, I hate Compressor.

Sorry, my suggestion was Compressor Repair. Is your OS up to date, rebooted your computer? 🙂

Have you tried going to ~/Library/Application Support/Compressor/Layouts and deleting the file Compressor.saved.moduleLayout? It’s worth a try.

Let me know if it works for you and I’ll add it to the next version of Compressor Repair.

FCS Maintenance Pack – Tools to keep Final Cut Studio running smoothly and fix problems when they arise
FCP Versioner – Backs up Final Cut Pro projects to XML and creates changelists for each revision

Tried dumping the Layout file – no joy

    Reloaded Compressor off install disc-
    Its Up!
so – fingers crossed, I have at least an interface now 🙂

Again my thanks for stepping up

    Okaaay-
So 1st time I drag in a clip to Compressor, as soon as I select a codec, the program crashes!

tried the Repair App again, no joy.

All this after a fresh install of Compressor ( 3.0.1 plus 3.0.5 update) off the install disc. Man, all these years of using Comp in my G5 tower w no probs, now in the newly-minted 12core its crash-o-rama
    🙁

    any thoughts?

After the 12-cores came out, Apple released an update for Final Cut Pro 7 to address incompatibilities caused by the fact that Final Cut Studio was designed for a maximum of 8 cores. I would assume that this incompatibility remains in Final Cut Pro 6 which has not been updated. It may therefore be necessary to upgrade to FCP 7 ($299) to fix these issues.

    Hi Jon-
yes, FCS 3 is in the works, since I can’t go on like this!
besides, all the core power and not using latest/greatest is sorta silly 😉
Will be looking at your FCP service software too I think.
    cheers
