How do you keyframe the shape of an OPEN mask?
hi there
Basically what I want to do is have a line made from an open mask change shape…but I wont its shape to change, however when I try and do this and mvoe along a few frames it simply joins up with the previous mask making a longer line. Is the only way to do it having lots of individual masks?

Just wanted to say basically what Im trying to do is animate a Kite moving. Ive done a mask of a solid for the actual kite..bit, but its the string that hangs off the end that I want to animate, it looks really bad as a brush stroke because Im tracing from a very low resolution video…any ideas?

1. Draw the tail mask on a solid, using the pen tool in the comp window.
2. Hit M to reveal the mask shape property in the timeline.
3. Set a key for mask shape at that point in time.
4. Move to another point in time.
5. Using the arrow tool, select mask points and drag them to new positions. A keyframe for mask shape will be created automatically.
6. Preview and repeat until satisfied.To see the tail, apply render>stroke to the layer.

Ah yes ofcourse, sometimes I think things are more complicated than they really are. Thanks for your help, Ill give that a go. Also do you know about rendering out…I posted a message about it above, I just have to be in uni in an hour to show my work and its not gonna happen at the speed rendering is happening!
