  • FCP TIMECODE & AE TIME CODE. Same file, different TC.???

I am trying to avoid exporting a ton of little files from FCP to AE by making note of timecode on individual clips and then trying to match those codes to the same clip imported into AE. It’s a big file, 30 minutes. So I note the TC for a short 4 second clip in FCP and when I enter the same code into the clip editor, it’s way off.

    What’s up with that?

Funny, I didn’t think AE could read timecode.

I was also under the impression that AE starts every rendered file at 0:00:00.

It sounds as if you’re importing one large clip into AE, then rendering the one big clip. Does that large rendered clip start at 0:00:00?

I think you’re SOL, unless … if the timecode of the clips is continuous, you can try starting the comp timecode (comp settings) at the same value as the start of the large clip. However … I’ve never tried it, and it might just start the rendered file at zero anyway.

    Give it a go,
    Steve

Could be that AE’s time base is set differently than your FCP sequence. As the other poster wrote, AE does not read timecode from the media.

Nonetheless, Pro Import AE is perfect for you and exactly what you need…
