Our business needs to encode Windows Media Multiple Bit Rate files. We’ve had no problems doing this with Windows Media Batch Encoder, but we thought Squeeze 4 would help automate the process a little more. So far, that’s not the case:

Whenever we ecode a MBR file with Squeeze 4 on PC, the high and medium settings play back fine from a media server. The low setting (modem speed), however, plays at about 0.2 frames per second instead of the 5 fps desired.

I have no problem encoding a single bit rate file at modem speed. It only seems to have problems with MBR, which is what we need.

Has anyone encountered this problem or a solution? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Very weird.

    What versions of:
    Squeeze
    Windows Media Player
    Windows Media Services

    Are you testing with?

Thanks for the response, and sorry I took so long to respond myself.

    I’m using:
-Squeeze 4 (and I just tried again with 4.3, same results)
-Windows Media Player 9 and 10, with “Choose Connection Speed” set to different settings to test the different bit rates.
    -Windows Media Services 9 Series

I have no problem encoding an MBR file using Windows Media Encoder, but when I try to set up a similar profile in Squeeze, the lowest bitrate just runs like crap (0.2 fps according to WM statistics).

If it helps, my profile is as follows:

    Windows Media MBR Custom Preset

    Audio: WM V9 Audio
    Audio1: 32 kbps, 16, 44100, mono
    Audio2: 32 kbps, 16, 44100, mono
    Audio3: 16 kbps, 16, 22050, mono

    Video: WM Video V9
    Video1: 650 kbps, 320×240, 29.97 fps, 120 frames, 4 sec
    Video2: 161 kbps, 320×240, 15 fps, 120 frames, 4 sec
    Video3: 17 kbps, 320×240, 5 fps, 50 frames, 4 sec
