Hi, I’ve been using the Bevel Deformer a lot to Chamfer or Fillet polygons (not sure what the difference is between the two).

The fillet that comes with a Primitive is perfect, but the Bevel Deformer seems to leave gaps

If I optimise the edges, it seems to work, Is that the correct way of doing it ?

Sorry I cannot replicate the issue, the bevel deformer on an editable cylinder work fine for me.

That’s strange, I thought I’d try a newer version of C4D (that one was R19) so I opened the same file in R21 and noticed this option appeared:

And it works fine. Is this a bug in R19?

I don’t have that option either.

Optimizing is correct, the primitive cylinder is made as three pieces so the bevel deformer only works correctly when it’s all one object not three

no not a bug in R19, they have just been upgrading things like the cylinder so you can check off Single Object (I think that’s it, I don’t have 21 here) like you could (in 19 etc) with the Boole and others so it will work with the deformer properly without having to be made editable.
