  Can I achieve this effect without manual animation?

  I’m looking to recreate the effect found at 33 seconds in this video https://youtu.be/hGz7MCdMWVc?t=33s and was wondering if I’d have to hand animate the parts splitting, is there any way around this? I know that for a ‘build in’ effect like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXJZOpmpCVY I’d have to hand animate because the parts actually move instead of simply separating but what if I just want the parts to float in place?
