Hi. I’ve a building created in 3DS Max that I want to incorporate into live-action footage via After Effects. I was wondering if anyone knows a tutorial that can explain the process, or at least, something similar. Google is proving not to be very helpful!

    Thanks!

Well, All you have to do is render it out with alpha channel. Either targa, png or other image sequences like rla, rpf and etc.

Next thing you do is import it in after effects, interpret with premultipled with a black background if you rendered it with black background.

I’m not really sure if it helps, but if your live footage is locked down(no camera movement), it should be an easy import and composite. Hope it helps

Thanks for the reply. There is a camera move involved. A pan over, if you get me, and a camera shake at some point. Would this change your method? I presume I just use motion tracking or something?

Well, if it’s a pan over, I guess I would use a two point tracker to stablize the motion first. Composite the building over, remove the stablize in the live footage and apply that to my building shot. That should be the short of it.
