  • Global Illumination causing unwarranted render issues?

    Hello everyone,

I’m working on a relatively simple scene where a camera follows a key that unlocks some doors, after which the camera flies through said door. I’m using a stage object to switch from camera to camera for different shots. During the render I always encounter the same problem, yet I cannot find out why. At one particular frame, early on in the animation, the Global Illumination suddenly generates a very messy and seemingly inaccurate cache file and then proceeds to try out and render the frame without it actually rendering the image. At his point the render’s just halted at that particular frame and doesn’t really continue.

I’ve checked the frame number in question to see if there was anything obstructing the camera, if there were any wayward keyframes that shouldn’t be there, or there’s any lights blowing up, but I can’t find anything! I’ve attempted to start the render one frame later, even dozens of frames later, but every other frame between the first incriminating one and the keyframe where the stage object switches to a different camera have the same problem.

My settings aren’t set to ridiculously high either, and the reflections aren’t too insane either. I’ve added some motion blur, but only because I don’t have Re:Vision’s motion blur plugin for AE. Other than that, I’ve set most settings lower than I usually would to see if it’d change anything, but no effect so far.

Hopefully someone has an idea of what’s going on. I figured it could be my CPU failing, but nothing like this has ever happened before, and I’ve had much more complex scenes. Anyway, your input is most welcome! Can supply with the scene file by PM.

    Regards,

    Cris

what happens if you change the Physical Sampler to Progressive and the GI Preset to Progressive – No Prepass?

    Hello!

Thank you for your input, but I’ve managed to locate and circumvent the issue. For some reason, the motion blur was causing a sort of hiccup in the render at that particular frame, so I’ve rendered out a separate motion vector pass and decided to just bite the bullet and buy that motion blur plugin for AE.

The render’s functioning as it should now.
