Earth using ccSphere and big textures
I have created a 3d earth using a nice big texture and ccSphere.
I animate the radius so it looks like we start from far away and zoom into Europe. Then I use the rotation in ccSphere to locate different countries..
I have created a big comp 12000 x 6000 and a smaller one 6000 x 3000 which I use when further away..
which I bring into a new comp and apply ccSphere.I’ve put text and a few markers on the maps to show locations.
However the render times are huge !! Obviously because the comp size is big for the main texture it is taking a while to calculate. The problem I have is getting the spherical look. I only need to show Europe so I have cut the texture up in Photoshop, imported it into my big pre comp, and replaced the massive texture. But because the comp size is so big, it is still taking ages to render. (12 hours for 800 frames)
I’ve got loads of these maps to do, and need to find a much less render intensive way of doing it.
Can anyone think of a clever way around this. I have to say I am a bit stumped.
I could do it in 3D, but I prefer the interaction of AE.
thanks for any help
