Prism Shaped moving surfaces
Does anyone know what this effect is called , I saw it recently in the Dr Strange film aswell

something I would like try out on a real basic level , if anyone has any pointers…

It looks like it might have been done using Trapcode Mir in After Effects, but a basic setup for something similar in C4D would be to add a Displacer with a noise shader to a plane and animate its position. To add the random vertical displacement increase the Animation Speed in the Shader Properties above zero. Adjust (or animate) the Height setting in the Displacer’s “Object” properties as well.
