  • Problem – Texture/UV from different object

    Hello everyone.

I’ve been struggling with this problem for quite a while and I can’t figure a better way of sorting it out. I have re-crated the “Mystique” effect using the cloner, a plain, a shader and some expressions on a cube deformed in a “scale like” shape.

My problem now is texturing the scale effect. What I ended up doing was to camera project the ” normal skin” texture to one side of the scales, while using just the blue colour of the “blue skin” for the other side. This will work for static characters but I am planning to use it on a animated character, making camera projection pretty much impossible. Is there any way of getting the texture / UV from the head mesh on the selected faces of my “scale” object? Thank you ????

You can use a Shader Effector to transfer the colors from your texture map to the clones, although that’s not exactly the same thing as projecting the actual texture. What it does is sample the texture color for each location where you have the clone and apply that to the clone. Since you have so many clones it would probably look fine.

In this case you’d apply the shader effector to the cloner, with Parameter>Color Mode set to On (use alpha strength unchecked).

Then in the Shading tab, set Channel to Color and drag the skin texture tag from your head mesh into the Texture Tag box. Then you’d create two materials for the clone. The one on the outer faces would have a Mograph>Color shader in the color channel. The other material would be blue.

A simpler way to do it might be do have your clones offset slightly inside your mesh. Make them altogether blue. Then have your effectors push them out slightly in front of the mesh as they’re flipping around.

Thanks for the tips. I might be doing something wrong as now it’s a bit white-ish. Any thoughts?

Hmmm. You don’t have “use alpha strength” turned on in the shader effector?

Yes I do have it turned on. ???? Would you mind having a look at my project? I might be doing something wrong. Thank you

I can’t explain why, but when I turn off the Taper Deformer and then turn it back on again the problem clears.

Lovely. Thank you for your help. I actually connected the Taper and Cube together so the problem should be gone. That being said, my problem is solved. Thank you again.

L.E: I’ve just realised that it will only affect one side of my transition object. Any chance it can take the colour information for the other side as well?
