Noise in render when using procedural noise in Bump channel
Posted by Thomas Hendrikson on October 31, 2016 at 11:34 amHi there,
I have to create a sand like texture on a plane, I’m using procedural noise under the bump channel but in all the try outs I’ve done there appears the be a lot of unwanted noise. Since I’m going a bit crazy now, could someone help me find/advice the right render settings or another type of way to create sand?
Thanks in advance.

November 1, 2016 at 2:22 pmdepends on settings – are you using Random for noise, what is specular/reflectance etc etc can you post an example scene file?

November 2, 2016 at 5:51 pmHi Brian,
Thanks for responding. I’m using ‘Stupl’ and ‘ober’ noise, no specular in that material (that I use for the floor). Ive created inflatable like objects that do have a high specular, but in the test renders without them I still get the unwanted noise. I’m including some specs pics of the floor material and of the option tab under render settings: -

November 2, 2016 at 5:57 pmnot enough info – would like to see the scene file – even just a stripped down version with only a floor and the material

November 3, 2016 at 12:45 amas you indicated, nothing in Reflectance so what’s visible is only surface color, the colors on Plane are just the colors in the gradient in the Color channel plus the bump added from Bump. I’m not seeing anything that looks unwanted. What looks wrong to you? Is it one of the colors or something about the bump?

November 3, 2016 at 7:33 amNothing looks wrong with it untill I start rendering. The camera in the scene pans from left to right and what happens then is that in the rendered video flickering on the plane appears. Lots of it and fast moving, almost as if the bump is moving.

November 3, 2016 at 5:05 pmIf you go to the bump channel of your Floor material and lower the Delta setting of both noise shaders to 10% it should reduce or eliminate the flicker. Or you could just disable the bump channel since it doesn’t seem to be doing a lot.
