Pixelating PAL DV video
Truly hope you can help me here.
I just recorded some DV Pal 16:9 footage on a greenscreen. The thing is that AE Cs3 (Mac) seems to pixelate the video. And that’s before I even start to play around with it. A straight export from AE, again no playing around with the data, makes the quality lower or more pixelated.
The original clip in quicktime says 720×576 (768×576). The one out of AE says 720×576 (1024×576). I’m aware that the 1024 part is due to the video being anamorphic. But it seems like AE might be transforming the video to 720 pixels?
Anyway, I get no loss in data/quality if I throw the footage into Final Cut, and I can’t recall having experienced this before. And yes i am displaying full quality and rendering in dv pal 16:9 25fps, best qual.

Okay I have now managed to fix this situation. I threw my dv footage into FCP and exported it as Animation, and that makes AE display it in full quality. But still what is happening?

Check your interpret fields and best edges, resolution, and export settings. Here’s the rundown…
D-1 PAL -Discreet edit* PAL

Ah thank you very much. AE interpreted the footage as lower field first, I set it to off and everything is fine. Again Thanks!
