Whether there is a mtl file or not, they all look the same. What can I do to make the “default render” more like a Keyshot render?

Cinema’s native obj. import doesn’t read mtl files. Add your own material to the object.

R17 does read .mtl files, I don’t import enough .obj to know how good it is but it seems to work for the few I’ve tried.

Thank you Adam, for reminding me of C4D own obj import/export which I have not used for years. Since c4d 11.5 in fact. Actually it imports correct! The error is in Riptide. With Riptide I can import an obj file with the specular set to,

    Ks 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000
    Ns 5.000000

And yet the component has unwanted specularity after import. Moreover, if I export with Riptide ganz richtig I now have,

    Ks 1.000000 1.000000 1.000000
Ns 50.781250 In the mtl file.

And there is no way I can get rid of it inside c4d even if I uncheck the whole Reflectance parameter.

But – I can use c4d’s obj import. I suppose it is safe now after so long time. Or do you know about any issues with it?

I am really ashamed that I have not discovered the error in Riptide before now. I observed it but thought it was nothing to do.
    Oh well..
