  • Illustrator 8 file won’t open in C4D

I saved my illustrator file which is made up of basic shape paths as Illustrator 8. When I try to import it into Cinema 4D it says “Unknown File Format.” Everything online says this should work. I can’t even find anyone else with the same problem.

    Any ideas?

correct, it should work. Perhaps the file is corrupt. Can you post it?

Unfortunately I have tried multiple files.. one of which was just a single box… still unrecognized file format.

    Everything is fully updated.

I think something might be wrong with the program itself.

If you post a file we’ll be able to tell you if it’s a problem with your Cinema or a problem with Illustrator.

I had a friend test the illustrator file and it worked on his machine.

    I just reinstalled C4D and it still doesn’t work…

    Problem solved!

Turns out when I save the illustrator and I set the Preview Mode to NONE it will open. It doesn’t explain why it opened without fail on my friends machine but I am happy for now.
