Start saving your pennies if you use a PowerPC based Mac
I found this out only today:

Apparently I need to start saving my pennies to AE CS4 when it does become available. I wish I could push my PowerMac G5 2.7 based system a little longer. I got my old G3 to run quite a long time with up processor upgrades and cannibalized parts.

This is actually fabulous news. Reminds me of the time those rat bastards at Media 100 dropped support for Ye Olde Nubus. I wasn’t exactly happy with that marketing decision but I soon realized holding on to my ancient Macs was not going to make any sense in the fast changing world of digital video.
Our Intel Macs offer us so much in terms of speed, power, and expansion options. The price/performance ratio is amazing, you get a freakin’ monster for less than you spent on your G5 and your new Mac, along with Leopard, will make your G5 feel like an old LCIII running System 6. (I must admit, I still have an LCIII running System 7. It boots in about 20 seconds and Word Perfect 3 loads instantly.)

BTW, Photoshop doesn’t work with Leopard.
So if you’re upgrading, you’ll have to upgrade that, too.
As for power, if I hadn’t upgraded to an 8-Core Mac, I couldn’t do our show. We depend a great deal on After Effects and Apple’s Color, and both require intensive rendering. Having all eight processors crunching away makes it possible for me to get things done within a reasonable time frame.

Photoshop doesn’t work with Leopard? Tell my system(s) that. What version of PHotoshop you talking about? Mine has been working with CS2 and CS3 from the get go.
Back on topic, I’m only bummed because I thought I spent alot when I bought the G5 2.7, granted right after I bought it the switch to Intel was made public. Same thing happen to me back when I purchased a suped up G3, three days later the G4s came out. Later I was able to swap our processor boards.
Hopefully I can not make the same timing error again. -

Looking back over my history of buying Macintoshes, we missed every new technology by a few months. Even our Intels are mere first generation dualies.

Well, I’m not sure if the policy was the same back then, but if you buy your computer direct from Apple and the product is updated within 14 days of your purchase you’re supposed to be able to exchange your now obsolete computer for the updated computer for free.
