  making a plane fade to/fall off to black

  This might be easier than what I am thinking but I cannot get it. I have a plane that I have applied hair to and made it look like grass. I don’t want my plane to be huge so I am trying to fade it off to alpha so that it does not just end with a sharp line. what is the best way to do this.

  I figured out a work around using an FFD and warping the plane.
