  • casting shadows withoug “objects”

I am preparing a short video title sequence with the camera tracking along a footpath, with the camera pointing at the footpath.
I would like shadows of trees cast onto the footpath and any objects, without the need to create trees for the light to go through.
Is there any way to project shadows in some way, maybe a transparent plane with a map of trees?
It is not something I have thought of before, and it is new territory to me.

Yes, you could use a plane with alpha-mapped trees.

    Great, thanks.
    Am now experimenting.
