August 20, 2008 at 1:59 pmYou need to orient the layer to camera. You can do this by right-clicking on the 3D layer and selecting Auto-Orient from the context menu. Then choose Orient to Camera. This should help to solve your problem.

August 20, 2008 at 2:33 pmIm afraid thats not what i meant… I need to have the new layer that i add to the comp be repositioned in front of the camera so the camera is looking directly at the new layer…since the camera has been moved and rotated trying to the move the new layer manually to find where the camera is now looking is really tough…I thought there may be an automatic way to reposition the new layer…

Parent the layer to the camera, then change the layer’s position property to [0,0,zoom] where ‘zoom’ is the value of the zoom on your camera (select your camera and hit ‘aa’ to reveal this), and set the orientation of the layer to [0,0,0].
Once the layer is in position you should un-parent it from the camera, unless you want it to stick with the camera for the duration of the composition.

thanks for the help,
what I need is the opposite – i have a 3D scene with layers, and I want to make the camera look directly to a specific layer, by repositioning the CAMERA and not the LAYER.
I’m sure there’s a simple way to do it (hopefully) but I just can’t find it.
Thanks a lot, jos.
