  the correct deinterlacing and interlacing proceedure for composite work….

  hello,

  I’ve been working on a video effect where a hand on a chopping block gets chopped off by a big cleaver, its pretty simple in after effects just using multiple layers and doing lots of masking.

  anyway, I’ve got it looking pretty good but part of the process involved exporting mini-DV footage from premiere as a 1440×1152 de-interlaced image sequence.

  I did this to get a decent edge on the mask in after effects cos the pixels were really obvious when masking the original dv footage, was this a bad idea? it still makes sense to me and it worked…

  when i render the finished comp out of ae and put it back into premiere to export to camera, it all looks great but watching it on the TV gives the image sequence element of the scene a sort of soft stuttering that looks like the flicker of film playback.

  i am assuming this is because the other elements in the comp are all interlaced and playing back nicely on the tv but the image sequence is deinterlaced and so not changing at all between odd and even fields… is this correct?

  Is there a specific proceedure to follow when it comes to the process of interlacing and deinterlacing footage to get the different elements of a composite sequence to work together on the tv?

  any answers would be greatly received
