I have a scene where I want some volumetric light coming through a window. I used a spotlight and put it outside the scene pointing through an changed it to volumetric. I made sure the render settings would render it, but I get nothing but a harsh light effect coming through the window. That by itself looks kinda nice and realistic, but i want that smokey early morning window look. Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong.

Here is a picture showing the scene and the window with the light coming through. I really want a nice hazy smokey light coming into the room….any sugestions?

It should work okay. My guess is that you need to reduce the light’s Visibility>Sample Distance setting.
