    Hi,

Anyone have any suggestions for creating this look. I know Magic Bullet makes an excellent plug-in but I’m really looking to do this without the use of plug-ins via curves or something.

Maybe someone could just enlighten me a little on what is going on in terms of HSL in a 3 strip process.

    Any suggestions are appreciated.

Can you be a little more specific? No idea what you’re referring to. Take a look at colorama though…

3 Strip process is better known as “Technicolor”. It’s the saturated color look that we associate with old movies from the 40’s – 60’s. The Wixard of Oz is a good example.

I’m trying to reverse engineer the process. I thought maybe someone out there has alraedy done it and could save me some time.

    Plagiarizing here….

i did a whole three strip process for an episode of the webshow i do wherein i had three seperate instances of the footage stacked. i only allowed one for green, one for red, and one for blue. then i tweaked the green a little towards yellow, the red a little towards magenta, and blue a lot towards cyan and blend them back together. then you compress the midtones. i was very pleased with my results.

    Thanks Joey,

I’ll give that a try. Sounds like it’ll work nicely.

[Joey Burnham] “then i tweaked the green a little towards yellow, the red a little towards magenta, and blue a lot towards cyan and blend them back together. then you compress the midtones.”

If you want to try a ‘shortcut’ for affecting your footage in this way, try the Color Correction > Channel Mixer effect. You can boost the contribution of every channel to each channel. I hope that makes sense!
