  Outline stroke effect

  Hi,

  I am looking to create the effect used in this video:

  (at around 1:10)

  I searched and found a cow tutorial that created a stroke outline, but its not really what im looking for. I could probably do it using a stroked mask frame-by-frame, but im pretty sure that’s not what was done in the video.

  does anyone have any ideas how this was achieved..?

  since the musicians were keyed, they may have used auto trace (layer>auto trace) to create a layer mask (vector outline/path) based on layer transparency. with that they could have used 3d stroke (trapcode.com) with the repeater feature and a little position offset to create the outlines.

  you could use ae’s stroke effect, but you will need to duplicate the layer with the mask for each outline and offset them a bit.

  Presuming this is a keyable clip the way I would do it is to

  auto trace the layer (layer>autotrace). This might make a lot of masks.

  Then apply a stroke effect to all masks. In stroke options, select “on original”

  Then duplicate the layer, in stroke options select “on transparent” and adjust the width.

  Then offset the layer appropriately.

  Thanks for your replies.

  Actually the footage was thinking of using is not keyed at all.
  I suppose this is where the problems are gonna start.
