I’m looking for some advice on how to model a button. Sounds like it should be easy, but its proving more difficult that I expected.

The shape, looking from the top down, is curved on 2 sides with rounded corners to straight other 2 sides. That part I could do with a simple extrusion.

What is proving to be the problem is the “cap”, which I need to be “bubbled” upward, not as simple as doing a “Fillet Cap” since that only rounds the edges. I’m trying to get the entire top of the button rounded.

I also tried with a Hypernurb, which comes close, but it ends up pinching the corners instead of making the entire top surface smoothly curved as well as all the edges.

These are to be buttons for a calculator model.

Hope I was able to explain this well, and hope someone can help!

    This kind of shape?

If so, it’s a cube with fillet to make it round then adjust the dimensions to get the shape and scale it flatter with the Object Tool.

Thats pretty much what I’m looking for, just a few modifications should get it to where I need it.

Funny how some of the, seemingly, simple objects to model turn out to be the hardest to figure out.

    Thanks a LOT!!

Well apparently I can’t seem to modify the shape you sent me into what I need. When I stretch it around, it just deforms one of the corners.

I’ve attached a file with my keypad layout, with the shapes the way I need them.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

I don’t know if the bulge on top is right but this might be the way to go. Bevel last. It doesn’t have to use HyperNurbs, I would just slice finer if you want to avoid them. The rest is just a bit of planning knowing what you want at the end. Sorry, it’s kind of slow I was planning as I went…

Thanks for the walkthrough video! I’ve never used the soft-selection before, very interesting. I think I should be able to get exactly what I’m looking for with a bit of practice.

    Thanks again!

Thank you for all your help, the tutorial you put together worked great. I’ve attached a rendering of the model I put together.
