I tracked a shot in Boujou (static camera, moving footage) it’s a car driving down the street, camera is at the drivers perspective. I’m attempting to composite a C4d building model on the side of the street so it appears to be standing among existing buildings.

So far I have a great track, test object are locked in place and seemingly ready to move onto C4d. So I’ve exported and brought the file into C4d, placed my footage in a background layer.

I have placed a cube as a test object and when previewing the camera movement through the scene, the object slips and it appears that my track is useless.

Does anyone experienced this before/ have any input on how I can make things work?

    Thanks in advance.

Couple of things to check, did you put the object in the correct location in 3d space? is the camera properly aligned with the footage (starting on the same frame)? did the camera information come over to C4D properly (do you have the same focal length and film back as Boujou)? Those are few common things if I actually could see your setup I could help you more.

Thanks Brian- the camera is definitely not aligned with the footage, it actually appears right in the middle of all of my tracking data. Is there a way to line this up in c4d?

I don’t think the camera information matches either. My camera info in Boujou is:

    Cinema 4d camera info is:

I appears that a lot of these settings don’t match from Boujou to C4d, the settings listed also don’t match up. Is there another settings window that I’m missing in C4d?

The frame rate is 30fps in both. Also I exported from Boujou as “moving camera, static scene” where my footage is actually “static camera moving scene” (any time I imported the latter into C4d my camera wouldn’t even follow the scene, so I exported moving camera, static scene- not sure if this plays a part in this whole issue.

Again, I really appreciate your help.

Also, my focal length as listed in Boujou is: 17.0504

so that’s also way off. I’ve tried adjusting it, but I’m not really able to assess whether this is helping since I can’t line my track up with the video yet.

Thank Brian. My test object was in a pretty close area to where the actual would be, but the problem again is that the footage and track data don’t match up. I’m not sure how to align the footage and the camera, but it appears that everything is starting and stopping on the same frames. My camera automatically sits in the middle of all of my tracking data, and I’m not sure how to get it to line up at the beginning.

My exported camera settings in Boujou are:

The focal length is also 17.0504 in Boujou

My camera settings in C4d are:

So it’s apparent that these differ, but the settings between the two programs don’t seem to correspond either. Unless I’m missing a window in either program.

I also exported from Boujou as “moving camera, static scene” although my footage is a locked down camera in a moving scene. Would this affect my c4d result? I tried exporting as “static camera moving scene” but when Importing to c4d my camera wouldn’t follow any of the track data. So that’s why I stuck with the default setting.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Stephen,
So after looking at your scene it looks like you’ve done the right things in Boujou. From my understanding of your shot it should be a moving camera in a static scene. the car in a sense is like a dolly moving through the street. Also your setup in cinema 4d should match the focal length and film back width of Boujou. Otherwise things won’t match up. Had the same problem some time ago bringing Syntheyes tracking info into C4D. If the animation of the camera starts on the right frame as your footage than you should be all set provided you actually have a good track. Let me know if you can’t get it worked out. Maybe you can post the file somewhere so I can take a look. Easier to get it figured out to see exactly the problem is.

    Brian,

Thanks for the input. So far I’ve had no luck matching these up.. My camera is still stuck in the middle of my track, so apparently something isn’t working out there. The frame rates from Boujou and Cinema 4d are different, I’ve tried adjusting them to match, but this doesnt seem to work for me either :/

I’m going to keep chugging away on this, but I’ve also attached my project files and the source video if you’d like to give it a look.

So I did a quick search this morning and found a post here:

    https://forums.cgsociety.org/archive/index.php/t-861411.html

Look for ngambles post. Worked great. I think I’ve even seen this post on Creative Cow somewhere. You may need to move your camera animation over a frame or 2 to line up with the footage but it works.

    Brian,

It totally works! Quite the work-around, but everything I need to finish this project.

I really appreciate all of your time and help.

    Best,

another tangent if anyone has encountered this.. my track is a bit shaky and unstable in Cinema 4d, although it appeared perfect in Boujou. I’ve checked my frame rates and everything there is good. Any other ideas?

I tried to change my focal length to match the value given to me in Boujou, but C4d won’t allow me to change the value.
