RigidBody text Shatter stop falling text from falling over
Posted by Brian Mills on January 27, 2011 at 7:28 pmHey all
I have a text shattering text scene…using rigid body tag and destruction. everything works excepts my falling text that crushes the other text falls over when it lands from the broken pieces of the shattered text…
Is there a way to keep the text that is falling being affected by the crushed pieces of the destructed text so it is left standing instead of falling back?
Thanks

January 27, 2011 at 8:19 pmChange the one you want to not move to a editable poly by pressing c.
Take the mograph tag you currently have on it and delete it. Add another tag to the object that is the same as the floor, It needs to be added to the individual letters, not the null.
this will make it rigid, with out the bounce effect you had before.

January 27, 2011 at 8:40 pmI still need the text to fall just not fall over after it crushes the text on the ground…im also using a Facture object if that helps…seems like Density is doing the trick though…

Here is the project file if that helps…the “MPG” text is the text I want to remain standing

January 27, 2011 at 10:08 pmif you crank the Rotational Mass on MPG up to it’s max and turn down the Rotational Mass somewhat on Competition that helps but it looks like parts of Competition need to be broken down more so the parts it perches on break up better.

January 27, 2011 at 11:05 pmanother possibility is to have two objects falling, one invisible object that breaks the text and another visible object (the MPG) that only interacts with the floor. The problem there is it will likely end up intersecting with the broken pieces once it comes to rest.

January 27, 2011 at 11:22 pmI’m not sure of your exact solution… but…
There are tons of work arounds. you can have the text shatter with force towards the camera as it approaches, you can have the text rotated 90 degrees, smashing the competition, then having the camera go above to see what it says. You can just have no shatter, and have “Commpetition” rotate around to say “Shattered” and then reveal MPG.
It is times like this that you sometimes have to just maybe find a new solution. Hope this helps!
