C4D how to flip normals?
Posted by Gopal Reghunath on November 14, 2010 at 8:58 amI have just imported a model I made from maya 2008. When I render, some of the objects on my character look black. I suspect this is a problem of flipped normals.
If so I hope someone can assist me with the problem.

November 14, 2010 at 11:12 amIn the functions menu there is an Align normals option. (u-a)
Or you can select the polys and use the reverse normals also from the functions menu.

November 14, 2010 at 7:03 pmThank you.
I also have another question. Is it possible to soften edges or anything like that in c4d? Because when i align normals, the object looks very faceted and sharp. I read somewhere that if I delete the normals tag, I can get it to look softer but that just makes the model very blunt and the lighting on it gets very messed up. -

November 15, 2010 at 4:01 pmSome imported models just have bad geometry and you can’t make them look good without a normals tag. It’s often the case when there are lots of long, skinny triangles in the mesh.

But even other clean areas look blunt. Is there anything I can do with the phong angle?
