  • Limit comp window to 256 colors??

I’ve created an animated gif banner in After Effects(I know… not the best program in the world for that). Actually, I had done a more complex animation and I wanted to convert part of it into an animated gif so I tried to “dumb it down” enough to use as a GIF and…

The file is too big and the colors look terrible (lots of artifacting).

My comp is set to 8 bits and everything looks fine in the comp window. After I render it to an animated GIF file, some of the colors look really bad. How can I either set the comp window to show me 256 colors so I can make sure it looks okay before I render it or apply some kind of adjustment layer or something to it limiting the colors to 256 in the comp window or in each layer??

The main thing is that I need a preview somehow so I can make changes before it’s rendered.

    Thanks!
